Badagry Restructuring

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has announced decisive measures aimed at restoring order, improving public safety, and enhancing the overall outlook of Badagryโ€™s major commercial corridors. This includes plans to clear traders from roads and walkways across key areas of the town and to reconstruct designated garages and motor parks to support orderly trading and traffic flow.

Hon. Hunpe made this known during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructural works at the Badagry Roundabout, where he reaffirmed his administrationโ€™s commitment to creating a safer, more accessible, and well-organised urban environment for residents, commuters, and business owners alike.

According to the Chairman, the intervention at the roundabout covers the reconstruction of the designated garage, the installation of perimeter fencing, and the relocation of traders currently occupying walkways and road medians. He explained that these steps are necessary to address persistent congestion, safety risks, and environmental concerns arising from unregulated trading activities.

He further noted that upon completion of the project, vehicles, commercial motorcyclists, buses, cars, and minibuses will be directed strictly into properly designated spaces. This, he said, will ease traffic congestion, improve pedestrian safety, and promote a more orderly and efficient flow of movement around the roundabout.

The inspection tour later moved to Agbalata Market, one of Badagryโ€™s busiest commercial hubs, where Hon. Hunpe assessed existing facilities and outlined additional interventions aimed at improving market operations. These include the relocation of traders obstructing walkways and drainages, the restructuring of the market garage and motor park, and the reconstruction of access roads leading into and out of the market.

In addition, the Chairman directed engineers to carry out structural integrity tests on selected facilities within the market to ensure the safety, durability, and long-term sustainability of market infrastructure. He emphasized that the safety of traders, shoppers, and commuters remains a top priority of the administration.

Hon. Hunpe assured stakeholders that the planned enforcement and infrastructural upgrades are not intended to disrupt livelihoods but to create a more conducive, organized, and secure trading environment that benefits everyone. He urged traders and transport operators to cooperate with government officials as the projects progress, stressing that collective responsibility is key to achieving a cleaner, safer, and more functional Badagry.

The Babatunde Hunpe-led administration remains committed to delivering people-oriented development through strategic urban planning, improved infrastructure, and policies that balance economic activity with public safety and environmental order.
