Roundabout 1

The Legislative Council of Badagry Local Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible governance by conducting an extensive inspection of two major infrastructure projects currently under construction within the local government area. The oversight exercise, carried out in line with the Council’s constitutional responsibility, reflects its determination to ensure that all public projects are executed in accordance with approved specifications, completed within schedule, and deliver lasting value to the people of Badagry.

The inspection tour, which took place on Wednesday, was led by the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Bankole Mautin Asokere, alongside Honourable Councillors of the Badagry Local Government Legislative Council. The visit provided members of the legislature with the opportunity to assess the quality, pace, and overall progress of key developmental projects initiated by the administration of the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, as part of its ongoing infrastructure renewal agenda.

Modern Learning Environment Taking Shape at L.A. Primary Schools I & II

The first point of call was the comprehensive renovation and upgrade of Local Authority Primary Schools I & II, Iluda, Ajara, one of the administration’s flagship educational infrastructure projects designed to transform the learning environment for pupils and teachers.

During the inspection, the lawmakers carefully examined the level of work completed and interacted with project personnel to gain firsthand knowledge of construction progress. They expressed satisfaction with the quality of work while emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards throughout every phase of the project.

Upon completion, the upgraded school complex will provide pupils with significantly improved learning facilities and a modern educational environment that supports academic excellence and holistic child development. Planned facilities include renovated classroom blocks, upgraded sporting infrastructure to encourage physical education and talent development, beautifully landscaped walkways that improve accessibility and aesthetics, a standard dining hall to support school feeding initiatives, and other modern amenities designed to enhance both teaching and learning.

The project is expected to create a more stimulating, secure, and child-friendly environment where pupils can learn, interact, and develop their full potential while complementing ongoing investments in basic education across Badagry Local Government.

International Motor Park Project Progresses Steadily

The inspection team also proceeded to the ongoing Badagry Roundabout International Motor Park Project, another strategic infrastructure initiative aimed at modernising transportation services and improving urban mobility within the local government.

At the project site, members of the Legislative Council observed the ongoing construction activities, including extensive sand filling and ground levelling works being undertaken in preparation for the installation of durable interlocking paving stones.

The proposed International Motor Park is being developed as a modern transport hub that will significantly improve traffic coordination around the busy Badagry Roundabout while providing safer, more organised facilities for commuters, transport operators, and visitors.

Beyond serving as a transportation terminal, the project also incorporates a dedicated commercial section that will provide structured spaces for businesses and legitimate commercial activities. The integrated design is expected to reduce indiscriminate roadside trading, ease vehicular congestion, improve traffic flow, enhance environmental sanitation, and stimulate local economic activities through better planning and infrastructure.

Upon completion, the facility will contribute to the broader urban renewal efforts of the Babatunde Hunpe-led administration by creating a safer, more orderly, and economically vibrant gateway into Badagry.

Legislative Council Reaffirms Oversight Commitment

Speaking during the inspection exercise, the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Bankole Mautin Asokere, reiterated that the Legislative Council remains fully committed to its constitutional responsibility of providing effective oversight over government projects and programmes.

He emphasized that continuous project monitoring is essential to ensuring prudent management of public resources, adherence to approved standards, timely completion of projects, and the delivery of infrastructure that genuinely improves the lives of residents.

According to him, every project funded with public resources must provide tangible value for money and reflect the aspirations and expectations of the people of Badagry.

He further noted that regular inspection visits by the Legislative Council will continue throughout the duration of project implementation to ensure contractors remain accountable and that all works are executed according to specification.

Strengthening Good Governance Through Accountability

The oversight visit further demonstrates the strong synergy between the Executive and Legislative Arms of Badagry Local Government in promoting good governance, institutional accountability, and sustainable development.

By carrying out routine inspections and evaluating project implementation on-site, the Legislative Council continues to strengthen public confidence in local governance while ensuring that developmental initiatives remain focused on the needs and aspirations of residents.

The exercise also highlights the Council’s resolve to foster openness, transparency, and effective monitoring as critical pillars for successful public service delivery.

Delivering Infrastructure That Transforms Communities

The ongoing school renovation and International Motor Park projects form part of the broader infrastructure transformation programme of the administration of Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, which prioritises investments in education, transportation, urban renewal, and public infrastructure to improve the quality of life across Badagry Local Government.

As construction steadily progresses on both projects, residents can look forward to the delivery of modern facilities that will not only enhance education and transportation but also stimulate economic growth, improve public services, create employment opportunities, and reinforce Badagry’s position as one of Lagos State’s most strategically important local government areas.

With sustained collaboration between the Executive and Legislative Arms of Government, Badagry continues to make meaningful strides toward building a more modern, organised, and prosperous community where infrastructure development translates into lasting benefits for present and future generations.
