Badagry Local Government has been recognised by the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) as one of the two outstanding Local Governments in Lagos State for its unwavering commitment to environmental preservation and tree planting.
The award was presented during the 2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Day celebration by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, in recognition of the council’s sustained efforts in promoting a cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable community.
The award was received on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Taiwo Towolawi, alongside the Special Adviser on Parks and Gardens, Hon. Zannu Semako Andrew.
Speaking after receiving the award, Hon. Hunpe described the recognition as a great honour for Badagry Local Government, noting that emerging as one of only two outstanding councils among Lagos State’s 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs is a remarkable achievement. He attributed the recognition to his administration’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability through initiatives such as the procurement of waste collection tricycles, the ongoing beautification of the Badagry Roundabout, the Keep Badagry Clean Initiative, and the dedication of the council’s Environmental Health Officers.
He dedicated the honour to the people of Badagry, noting that it reflects the collective efforts of residents, environmental stakeholders and government in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
Hon. Hunpe reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to deepen initiatives that promote tree planting, environmental conservation, proper waste management and public environmental awareness under the Keep Badagry Clean Initiative. He stressed that the award would serve as further motivation to sustain policies and programmes aimed at preserving the environment and improving the quality of life for present and future generations.
