The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, fMHR, today flagged off the pilot phase of the Renewed Hope Widows’ Mite Palliative, extending the administration’s special food support intervention to widows and widowers. The initiative, part of activities marking the first anniversary of the Hunpe-led administration, provided food palliatives to 500 beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Hunpe said government must remain responsive to the realities of its people, particularly vulnerable residents, stressing that providing succour in different forms is a necessary responsibility of government. He explained that the initiative forms part of a broader relief package designed to support different categories of vulnerable citizens, following the recent Renewed Hope Ounje Arugbo for senior citizens.
“Government must be able to respond to the needs of its people in practical ways. Where we identify citizens who require support, we have a responsibility to provide succour within our capacity. This intervention is our modest way of reminding our widows and widowers that they are not forgotten and that their welfare remains important to us,” the Chairman stated.
Speaking earlier while delivering the opening remarks, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to people-oriented policies and programmes, urging residents to engage government, provide constructive recommendations and contribute ideas, noting that government derives its mandate from the people.
Also addressing the gathering, the Leader of the House, Hon. Bankole Mautin Asokere, thanked the Chairman for reaching out to the citizens through interventions such as this and promised the cooperation of the legislative arm in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
In her closing remarks, the Council Manager, Mrs. Avoseh-Akwe Senami Oluwakemi, thanked the Chairman for the initiative and encouraged beneficiaries to embrace active citizenship and participation in the democratic process.
Also speaking, APC Apex Leader, High Chief Moses Zannu Ogunbiyi, and APC Badagry LGA Chairman, Hon. Gafar Muritala Meyon, in separate remarks, commended Hon. Hunpe for the intervention and his administration’s commitment to inclusive, compassionate, and people-centred governance.
Every package is thoughtfully packed with everyday essentials; semo, garri, rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, seasoning and beans bringing comfort and nourishment to every home it reaches.
Also at the event were the wife of the Chairman, Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Hunpe; the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Benjamin Adagba; Councillors; Supervisors; Special Advisers, among other stakeholders.
