The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Hunpe, yesterday led a street awareness campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), urging residents to speak out and support efforts to end the menace in the community.
Organised by the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), the campaign, themed βSGBV, It Ends With Us,β was held in line with the Lagos State Governmentβs efforts to combat all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.
Chief Mrs. Hunpe declared that all forms of SGBV would no longer be tolerated in Badagry, urging victims to speak out so perpetrators can be prosecuted. She also assured survivors of government support, including access to medical and psychological care.
She further called on parents to pay closer attention to the safety and upbringing of their children, stressing the need for proper parental guidance.
The Supervisor for WAPA, Hon. Olukanmi Thona, and Head of Department, Mrs. Kalejaye Folasade, also urged families, religious bodies, community leaders, school owners and security agencies to actively expose and report cases of SGBV to make the menace a thing of the past.
The campaign team took the awareness to Madam Grace, Ajara-Dokoh; Ansar-U-Deen Road; Agbalata Market; and Kiki Whenu Shopping Plaza before returning to the Council Secretariat.
The team included the Supervisor for Civic Engagement, Hon. Chief Pedetin Kappo; Councillors Hon. Okejoba Modupe and Hon. Sareaje Mautin; LGA Women Leader, Mrs. Atoyebi Fausat; and other officials.
