The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe (fMHR), has reaffirmed his administrationโs unwavering commitment to improving accessibility, public safety, and the overall trading environment, while enhancing the aesthetic outlook of key commercial and transit areas in Badagry.
Hon. Hunpe gave this assurance during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructural works at the Badagry Roundabout, where he assessed progress on projects designed to restore order, ease traffic congestion, and improve urban functionality. The ongoing intervention includes the reconstruction of the designated garage, the installation of perimeter fencing, and the relocation of traders currently occupying walkways and road medians.

According to the Chairman, once completed, vehicles, commercial motorcyclists, buses, cars, and minibuses will be directed strictly into properly designated spaces. This measure, he noted, will significantly reduce congestion, promote safer pedestrian movement, and ensure a more orderly and efficient flow of traffic around the roundabout.
The inspection tour continued at Agbalata Market, where Hon. Hunpe evaluated existing facilities and outlined further interventions aimed at modernising the market and improving operational efficiency. These include the relocation of traders obstructing walkways and drainage channels, the restructuring of the market garage and motor park, and the reconstruction of access roads leading into and out of the market.
In addition, the Chairman directed engineers to conduct structural integrity tests on selected market facilities to ensure their safety, durability, and long-term sustainability. He emphasized that safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of traders, shoppers, and commuters remains a top priority of the administration.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Hunpe stressed that well-organised commercial spaces and effective traffic management are essential components of urban development, public safety, and economic growth. โA well-planned market and roundabout not only create a safer environment for traders and commuters but also enhance Badagryโs aesthetic appeal and economic vitality,โ he stated.
In a related development, the Chairman also met with and addressed newly recruited casual workers, including gardeners and waste management officials, who will work alongside Environmental Health Officers to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more hygienic Badagry. While addressing the workers, he urged them to discharge their duties with diligence and professionalism, in line with his administrationโs โKeep Badagry Cleanโ initiative.
The Council Chairman was accompanied on the inspection by key members of his team, including the Chief of Staff, Mr. Taiwo Towolawi; Council Manager, Mrs. Abosede Mary Olusanya; Council Engineer, Engr. Ibrahim Fadairo; Chairman, Council Asset Committee, Mr. Kamorudeen Ajape, and other aides.
