Renewed Hope Agenda

Badagry Local Government is set to join the nationwide implementation of the “Adopt A School” Snacks for Thought (SFT) – PBAT FEEDS Initiative, a flagship intervention under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), as part of ongoing efforts to improve child nutrition, strengthen access to quality education, and promote the overall wellbeing of pupils in public primary schools.

The initiative, which is being implemented through the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and the Conference of 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Area Chairmen, is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, across Lagos State.

As part of the state-wide rollout, St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry, has been selected as the official take-off centre for the programme within Badagry Local Government. The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, will officially flag off the initiative, marking the beginning of another significant investment in the educational development and welfare of children within the local government.

The Snacks for Thought (SFT) – PBAT FEEDS Initiative is designed to provide nutritious snacks to pupils in public primary schools, helping to combat classroom hunger while improving children’s health, concentration, school attendance, and academic performance. By addressing nutritional challenges that often hinder effective learning, the programme seeks to create a more enabling environment where every child can thrive academically and realise his or her full potential.

Beyond its educational objectives, the initiative is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits by strengthening local agricultural value chains. Through the procurement of food items from local farmers, engagement of food vendors, and support for community-based suppliers, the programme will stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities, and contribute to sustainable livelihoods within host communities.

Speaking ahead of the official launch, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, commended the Federal Government, the Lagos State Government, the Conference of 57, and the leadership of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme for introducing what he described as a timely and impactful intervention capable of transforming the lives of children and strengthening educational outcomes across the country.

He particularly praised the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that the initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to investing in the future of Nigerian children through practical, people-centred programmes.

“I sincerely commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his Renewed Hope Agenda, which continues to prioritise the welfare of Nigerian children through impactful interventions such as the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. This initiative is a clear demonstration that investing in the health and education of our children is an investment in the future of our nation. Badagry Local Government is proud to partner in this noble cause and remains committed to supporting programmes that improve educational outcomes and uplift the lives of our people,” Hon. Hunpe stated.

The Chairman reaffirmed that education remains one of the key pillars of his administration’s development agenda, emphasizing that initiatives capable of improving learning outcomes while supporting vulnerable families will continue to receive the full backing of the Council.

He further noted that the programme complements ongoing efforts by the Badagry Local Government to improve educational infrastructure, promote child welfare, and expand opportunities for young people through strategic investments in schools, healthcare, youth development, and community empowerment.

The Council also reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening partnerships with the Federal Government, Lagos State Government, development partners, educational institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders in implementing programmes that directly improve the quality of life of residents.

According to the Council, collaborative initiatives such as the Adopt A School – Snacks for Thought (SFT) – PBAT FEEDS Initiative demonstrate the power of partnership in addressing critical social challenges while advancing sustainable development at the grassroots.

The administration expressed confidence that the programme will contribute significantly to increased school enrolment and retention, improved nutritional status among pupils, enhanced classroom participation, and better academic performance, while also providing economic opportunities for farmers, food vendors, and small businesses within the local economy.

As preparations reach their final stages, excitement continues to build among education stakeholders, parents, teachers, and pupils who look forward to the successful commencement of the programme in Badagry. The official flag-off will not only mark the beginning of the initiative within the local government but also reinforce the shared commitment of all stakeholders to ensuring that every child has access to quality education in a healthy and supportive learning environment.

Through initiatives such as this, the Babatunde Hunpe-led administration continues to demonstrate its dedication to inclusive governance, educational advancement, child welfare, and sustainable community development. By supporting programmes that invest in the health, education, and future of young learners, Badagry Local Government is laying a stronger foundation for a more prosperous, resilient, and educated society.
