The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, fMHR, has called on Christians across Nigeria to remain steadfast in prayer for the nation while living lives that faithfully reflect the teachings, character, and love of Jesus Christ.

The Chairman made the call during the 2026 Lagos State Conference of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), themed “24 Hours in God’s Presence,” where he applauded the Christian community for its unwavering commitment to nation-building through prayer, evangelism, humanitarian service, and the promotion of godly values.
Represented at the conference by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Taiwo Towolawi, Hon. Hunpe described the gathering as a timely spiritual awakening that encourages believers to cultivate a deeper and more consistent relationship with God. He noted that the conference theme serves as a powerful reminder that God’s presence should not be sought only during special occasions but should become the foundation of every believer’s daily life.
According to the Chairman, Nigeria’s journey towards lasting peace, unity, security, and sustainable development requires not only sound governance but also citizens whose lives are guided by faith, integrity, compassion, and moral responsibility.
“The theme, ’24 Hours in God’s Presence,’ reminds us that our relationship with God should not be occasional but continuous. As we remain in His presence, we receive the wisdom, strength, and grace to become better citizens and true ambassadors of Christ. I therefore urge Christians to continue praying fervently for Nigeria and to reflect Christ in their words, actions, and service to humanity. Through faith, unity, and responsible citizenship, we can build a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation,” Hon. Hunpe stated.
The Executive Chairman emphasized that Christians have a vital role to play in shaping society by demonstrating Christ-like virtues in their homes, workplaces, communities, and public engagements. He encouraged believers to become agents of peace, reconciliation, honesty, humility, and selfless service, stressing that the nation can only experience genuine transformation when individuals allow their faith to influence their daily conduct.
Hon. Hunpe further commended the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union for its enduring contributions to spiritual growth, Christian discipleship, family development, and community outreach. He described the organization as a dependable partner in advancing moral values, strengthening family life, promoting compassion, and supporting initiatives that foster peaceful coexistence and social harmony across Lagos State.
He noted that the consistent efforts of faith-based organizations in nurturing responsible citizens and supporting vulnerable members of society continue to complement government initiatives aimed at building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
The conference attracted Baptist women and Christian faithful from across Lagos State, providing an atmosphere of worship, fellowship, spiritual renewal, Bible teaching, and collective intercession for the Church, the State, and the nation. Participants reflected extensively on the conference theme, drawing inspiration to deepen their walk with God while remaining committed to making positive impacts within their families and communities.
The event also reinforced the importance of continuous prayer, unwavering faith, and active Christian witness as essential tools for addressing contemporary social challenges and fostering national development.
Badagry Local Government reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with religious organizations and other critical stakeholders in promoting initiatives that strengthen moral values, encourage peaceful coexistence, support youth and family development, and inspire citizens to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the local government, Lagos State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Through engagements such as the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union Conference, the administration of Hon. Babatunde Hunpe continues to underscore its belief that faith, unity, responsible leadership, and active citizenship remain indispensable pillars for building a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive society where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.
