Hunpe calls for unity
The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, fMHR, has called on Nigerians to uphold unity, peaceful coexistence, patriotism and respect for the country’s diversity as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Hunpe made the call while addressing guests and residents at the Local Government’s Independence Day celebration, where he congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the national anniversary.
The Chairman described Independence Day as more than a date on the calendar, saying it represents an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s sovereignty and to reflect on the responsibility of each generation to contribute to the country’s development.
According to him, Nigeria’s journey since independence has been shaped by the contributions of successive generations, making it important for citizens to preserve the values that bind the country together.
β€œAs we celebrate 66 years of nationhood, let us continue to uphold the values that bind us together: unity, peaceful coexistence, patriotism, respect for our diversity and commitment to the development of our communities,” he said.
Hunpe also stressed the importance of citizens playing their part in building a better society, noting that the responsibility for national development extends beyond government.
He urged Nigerians to remain committed to peace, responsible citizenship and the development of their communities, saying collective efforts were necessary to build the Nigeria that citizens desire.
The Chairman congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
