The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Princess Damilola Sonayon James and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Olamidosu Rotimi-Akodu, on Saturday led a Lagos State Government delegation to Badagry Local Government for the July edition of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise.

The delegation, which included the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin and Permanent Secretaries Dr. Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen and Engr. Mahamood O. Adegbite, joined the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, to monitor residents’ compliance and inspect sanitation activities across major roads, markets and communities.

Princess Sonayon commended Badagry Local Government for sustaining the monthly sanitation exercise, describing it as a practical demonstration of grassroots governance and environmental responsibility. She urged residents to make cleanliness a daily culture rather than a monthly obligation.

Also speaking, Engr. Rotimi-Akodu applauded the high level of compliance recorded during the exercise and commended the council’s environmental initiatives, encouraging residents to continue supporting government efforts through proper waste disposal and patronage of approved Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators.

In his remarks, Hon. Hunpe thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for sending a high-powered delegation to Badagry, describing the visit as a testament to the State Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The Chairman also commended Badagrians for their exemplary compliance, noting that Badagry remains one of the cleanest Local Governments in Lagos State in terms of waste collection and disposal. He explained that the reintroduced monthly sanitation exercise serves not only to clean the environment but also to continually educate residents on the importance of environmental hygiene and collective responsibility.

Hon. Hunpe further highlighted the council’s procurement of waste collection tricycles to complement the operations of LAWMA-accredited PSP operators, noting that the initiative has strengthened waste evacuation and environmental cleanliness across the Local Government.

The exercise reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Lagos State Government and Badagry Local Government to promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
